Obituary

Neil Clayton Boring was born on January 25, 1962, in Security, Colorado to Clayton Eugene and Jannette Lee (Bucher) Boring. He passed away on October 19, 2023, at the Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 61 years, 8 months, and 24 days.

Neil grew up in Humboldt, Nebraska where he attended and graduated from Humboldt High School with the Class of 1980. He attended Southeast Community College in Milford where he received dual degrees in Diesel Ag and Truck Technology, and also met the love of his life, Sue. Neil worked at O'Malley Implement in Pittsburg, Kansas after graduation. On April 22, 1989, Neil was united in marriage to Susan Rader in Emerald, Nebraska at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. To this union three boys were born, Matthew, Casey, and Brian. After Matthew was born, the family moved back to Nebraska where Neil began working at Stutheit Implement in Syracuse, Nebraska for several years before starting at Nebraska Machinery in Lincoln, Nebraska. After an accident, Neil went back to school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. He managed and helped open several restaurants in the Lincoln area. Neil also managed the Tool Rental Department at Home Depot for several years. He was a workaholic and rarely could sit still.

Neil was a caregiver to not only his immediate family, but to his extended family as well. He loved to volunteer in all of his boys' activities, especially building sets for the musicals at Lincoln High School. He taught Sunday School for many years at Christ Lutheran church; he helped with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts; and he volunteered for numerous (too many to list) school activities at Holmes Elementary, Lefler Middle School, Lincoln High School and Southeast High School. Neil was a huge advocate for the special needs community and volunteered for years with Homer's Heroes, the Autism Family Network, and the Lincoln Friends Optimist Club. A project near and dear to Neil's heart was helping to collect blankets each year to distribute to LPS elementary students in need. He always enjoyed delivering with a smile on his face and his Elmo hat atop his head. Neil was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt, and Christ Lincoln Church in Lincoln.

Neil was the hardest working and most generous man ever. He'd do anything he could to help anyone, whether he knew them or not. He was not about wealth and material things, but rather loved his family, friends, and beloved dog, Shyloh, fully and deeply. He was fiercely protective of anyone or anything who tried to harm or condemn any of them, but he was just as protective of those who were bullied, abused, or mistreated in any way. He always fought for the underdog and those less fortunate. He was so proud and loved his sons deeply. He was always concerned that he never told them that enough though he said it and showed it constantly. He was our rock, our protector, and our provider, and we loved him dearly and will miss him immensely.

Neil was preceded in death by his son, Brian Nelson Boring; his parents, Clayton and Jannette Boring; grandparents, Walter and Lucille Boring and Leo and Alma Bucher; parents-in-law, Marvin and Ardeth Rader; brother-in-law, Steven Rader, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Survivors cherishing his memory include his wife, Sue Boring; two sons, Matthew Boring and wife, Hanna Pinneo, and Casey Boring, all of Lincoln; two siblings, Barry Boring and friend, Kay Chrisman, Holton, Kansas, and Linnette and husband, Jeff Fankhauser, Humboldt, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Ron Rader and friend, Jonna Smith, Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Barb Winter, Sharon Brewster, both of Lincoln; Uncle Gerald and wife, Shirley Bucher of Marana, AZ; Aunt Lauralee Bucher of Auburn, NE; Aunt Sherryn Rist of Humboldt, NE; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and his dog, Shyloh.
