Nina (Rediger) Burkey was born March 14, 1914 in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska to Christian and Magdalena (Beckler) Rediger and passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 24, 2009 at the age of 95 years, 10 days. Nina was one of 13 children. She attended elementary school in Miller, South Dakota. On January 14, 1934, Nina was united in marriage to Melvin M. Burkey. Their marriage was blessed with seven children. Nina enjoyed antique sales and fishing and time with her family and friends. Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Magdalena Rediger; her sons, Walter Burkey and LeRoy Burkey; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Clyde Rediger and Willard Rediger; three sisters, Alma Hoeffner, Vada Hauder and Elsie Duffy. Nina is survived by her daughters, Helen Schluckebier of Lincoln, Grace Milton of Lincoln and Judie Fallis of Pontiac, Michigan; her sons and daughters-in-law, Duayne and Virginia Burkey of Golden, Colorado, Doyle and Donna Burkey of Edgewater, Colorado; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Walter Rediger of Grant's Pass, Oregon, Clifford Rediger of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; her sisters, Doris Stubstien, Florence Wilmes, Edna Onstad and Elaine Wilmes, all of Montana; many nieces and nephews and friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Nina. |
