Norma Jean Hemphill was born November 30, 1925 in York, Nebraska to Rae H. and Elizabeth Sarah (Lang) Pierce and passed away on October 11, 2010 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 11 days. Norma was a graduate of York High School. After graduation she attended nursing school in Chicago and earned her R.N at the Mary Lanning School of Nursing in Hastings. She worked at Engleside and Mary Lanning Hospitals before moving to Lincoln where she worked at St. Elizabeths Hospital. On October 25, 1945, Norma was united in marriage to Donald Roy Hemphill; their marriage was blessed with four daughters, Kathleen, Julie, Marilyn and Jane. Norma and Don lived in Hastings, Lincoln and Fort Worth, Texas before moving to Seward in 1950. Norma was the co-owner of Hemphill Electric in Seward for 60 years. She was a member of the Utica United Methodist Church, Utica American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 49 and a member of Seward VFW Auxiliary Post No. 4755. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Hemphill; parents, Rae H. and Elizabeth S. (Lang) Pierce; her daughter, Julie Hemphill; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Ed Widawski; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Dorwin Hemphill and Dale and his wife, Deloris Hemphill; Norma is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Craig and Chuck Antell, Harleysville, PA; Marilyn and her husband, Ed Hladky, Seward; Jane and her husband, Ray Kenney, Seward; grandchildren and spouses, Melissa and Chris Perrotto, Marcus Smith, Sarah Smith, Amy and Gene Gryder, Gail and Shawn Howe, Christopher and Amanda Kenney, Joshua and Sadie Kenney; nine great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Perrotto, Alexandra Perrotto, Jensen Smith, Brock Smith, Nicholas Gryder, Audrey Howe, Grace Howe, Nicole Kenney, Samuel Kenney and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Norma. |
