Opal Leone (Morris) Barth was born May 5, 1915 near Utica, Nebraska to Ernest Wesley and Alma Myrtle (Balster) Morris and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on December 6, 2009 at the age of 94 years, 7 months, 1 day. Opal attended Sleepy Hollow School District 72, south of Utica and was a 1932 graduate of Utica High School. Opal was united in marriage to Roland Walter Barth on January 27, 1935 at the Methodist Church in Utica and they celebrated 70 years of marriage together. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Larry Roland, Duane Walter and Rodney Morris. The couple farmed and moved into Utica in 1975. Opal joined the Methodist Church in Utica in 1936 and was a member for 73 years. She was active in United Methodist Women and held many offices. She also was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Opal volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 21 years and led devotions at Utica Community Care for over 20 years. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star for nearly 60 years. Opal worked at the Flying V in Utica for 17 years. Opal is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Alma Morris; her husband, Roland W. Barth in 2005 and her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Otto Wullenwaber. Opal is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Barb Barth of Utica, Duane and Vonie Barth of Utica, Rodney and Paulette Barth of Seward; nine grandchildren and spouses, Deb and Rick Hemphill, Doug and Barb Barth, Brad and Karen Barth, Diane Barth, Carol and Bryan Conway, Alan and Christel Barth, Shelli and Gary Knickerbocker, Carisa and Zeke Fogarty, Rainey Bennett and fianc Dominic Catania; 19 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Doris Morris of Long Beach, CA; sisters-in-law, Marie Barth of Seward and Bernice Barth of Milford; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Opal. |
