Obituary

Patricia Sanley, 70, of Seward, Nebraska passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on November 30, 2024. Pat courageously battled pancreatic cancer for the past two years. The love and support from her family, friends, and the Aquinas class of `72, carried her through her pain and suffering. Pat's unbelievable strength and perseverance to battle through cancer was admired by all who knew her. Pat is preceded in death by her father, Robert Kloke; mother, Agnes Kloke; brother, Roger Kloke; and sister, Janet Grossnicklaus.

Pat was born on January 31, 1954, to Robert and Agnes (Vyhlidal) Kloke in Norfolk, Nebraska. Pat attended Sacred Heart Elementary School in Norfolk, NE and middle school at St. Mary's in David City, NE. She attended Aquinas High School where she met the love of her life, Randy (Chuck) Sanley. Pat and Chuck fell in love during their freshman year and remained high school sweethearts until they graduated in 1972.

Pat and Chuck were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in 1973. They celebrated 51 years of marriage on March 3, 2024. They lived out their life together in Seward, Nebraska. In this union two sons were born, Dr. Benjamin Scott Sanley (1977) of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Dr. Brian James Sanley (1981) of Lincoln, Nebraska. Pat was very active in her sons' lives as she watched them grow into successful adults and build families of their own. She was immensely proud of her sons and their accomplishments and looked forward to spending time with them.

Pat worked various jobs including the Hinky Dinky stores in David City and Seward. Pat became the assistant Recreation Director for the City of Seward Parks and Recreation Department. She remained working there for the next 28 years and retired in 2018. Pat was very involved in the community and was an active member of the Board of Directors of the Seward Civic Center. She was involved in constructing the dog park in Seward and supervised the construction of the new Seward Pool. Pat also served on the board of the Seward Baseball Association and Seward Library.

One of Pat's favorite joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She attended their events when able and always welcomed them with hugs. When they came to visit, she filled their bellies and enjoyed playing card games with them. Pat also spent her time in her garden and tending to her beautiful flowers. She would usually plant over one hundred flowers every year. Pat enjoyed fishing, golfing and going to the casino with her husband. She was an avid Husker fan and especially enjoyed watching Husker volleyball.

Pat and Chuck were longtime members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward. Pat was a strong catholic woman whose faith could not be shattered, not even by cancer. She was a testament to how everyone should strive to live their lives. Pat had an infectious personality and made friends with everyone she met. This was witnessed by the many who visited, stood by her side during her battle with cancer, and supported her by sending flowers, cards, and gifts. Pat wanted everyone to know how much she appreciated the support. Pat would like to thank Marilyn Varner for faithfully sending a card every week since her diagnosis, and also Cathy Greguras, a lifelong friend, for being there for her.

Pat's home was a source of comfort filled with laughter and memories that will never be forgotten. Her legacy will live on in the lives of everyone she loved and knew. Her grandchildren describe her as the best Meema they could have ever asked for.

Pat is survived by her husband, Randy (Chuck) Sanley of 51 years; brother, Ken Kloke (wife, Ruth); nephew, Spencer Kloke; sons, Benjamin Sanley (wife, Jeni) and Brian Sanley (wife, Jill); and eleven grandchildren; Morgan, Alexander, Cameron, Maddison, William, Austin, Claire, Nathan, Taylor, Chloe, and Erin.

In addition to monetary gifts to care for the family, flower arrangements would be greatly appreciated, as Pat loved gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers.
