Raymond Ludvik Divis was born August 30, 1922 near Loma, Nebraska to Ludvik James and Vlasta Marie (Kudlacek) Divis and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on May 8, 2009 at the age of 86 years, 8 months, 9 days. Ray was a 1941 graduate of Brainard High School. Ray was united in marriage to Nora Stava on September 4, 1945 in Lincoln; to this union three children were born Jeryl (Jeri), Janel and JoEllen. After Nora's death, Ray was married to Vera Ann (Pokorny) Baker on December 9, 1964 in Lincoln. A son, Tracy was born to this marriage. Ray was a farmer and painter belonging to the Painters Union in Lincoln. He was a charter member of the Dwight Rural fire Protection District, a 12-year member of the Richardson Township Board of Butler County and received the Butler County Soil Conservation Award in 1952. In the early 1960's, Ray owned Dwight Shady Lakes and from 1970-1972 was the owner of VeRay's Cafe at Rogers, Nebraska. Ray was a member of Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church in Seward. He was a certified storm watcher for Channel 8 television. Ray loved hunting and fishing.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ludvik and Vlasta Divis; his first wife, Nora Divis, on June 24, 1963; his sister, Eleanor Divis; a daughter, JoEllen Divis and brother, Theodore Divis.
Ray is survived by his wife, Vera Divis of Beaver Crossing; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jeri and Lynn Naber of Beaver Crossing and Janel and Marshall Menz of Perry, Iowa; his son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Beth Divis of Kansas City, MO; stepchildren and spouses, Les and Kelly Baker, Dewey, AZ, Roma and Terry Jordan of Brainard, Craig and Donna Baker of Cortez, CO, Kim and Bill Oldenhuis of Omaha; 4 grandchildren, Lynnelle Nissen, Laura Richardson, Chad Menz and Madison Divis; numerous step grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, Donovan Nissen, Danielle Nissen, Dylan Nissen, Dalaina Nissen, Ryon Richardson and Alannah Menz; numerous step great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Art and Leona Divis of Brainard, Alfred Divis of Hempill, TX, Arnold and Ilene Divis of Prague; sisters and brother-in-law, Florence Parnham of Lincoln, Laurine and John Novacek of Dwight; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Ray.
