Raymond Frank Brhel was born October 4, 1922 on a farm west of Denton, Nebraska to William and Agnes (Kratochvil) Brhel and passed away on November 7, 2006 at his home in Goehner, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 1 month, 3 days. Ray was baptized at the catholic church in Denton on April 29, 1923. He attended country school in Lancaster County through the 8th grade and received his GED in Lincoln. Ray was confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Staplehurst in 1950. On December 26, 1950 he was united in marriage to Adele Rose Ohlschwager at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (Marysville), Staplehurst. This marriage was blessed with six children, Beverly, Leslie, Patricia, William, Adele and Raymond. They farmed west of Denton for 20 years and then moved to Goehner in 1970. Ray was employed with the railroad and as a maintenance supervisor with the University of Nebraska - Lincoln; he was also the owner of A & R Bar in Valparaiso and later worked with maintenance at Michals Real Estate and Warren Hospital in Friend. Ray was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Goehner for many years and currently was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Seward. Ray was a volunteer with Blue Valley Community Action; he was a member of a card club and of Polka of America in Nebraska and Kansas. His special interests were polka music, fishing, and woodworking. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and their families and enjoyed their company. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes Brhel; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Gerald Waegli; daughter-in-law, Kay Brhel; grandson, Joshua J. Bartek. Ray is survived by wife, Adele R. Brhel, Goehner; his children and spouses, Leslie R. Brhel, Goehner, Patricia A. and Edward Waegli, Goehner, William D. and Dona Brhel, Milford, Adele R. and Paul Bartek, Lincoln, Raymond Frank and Verna Brhel, Lincoln; 13 grandchildren, Gerald and Veronica Waegli, James and Jennifer Brhel, Carrie and Heath Samson, Angela and Clinton Ostrander, Clinton and Crystal Brhel, Jeremy Waegli, Greg Waegli, Melissa Brhel, Melanie Brhel, Tyler Brhel, Brandon and Rachel Bartek, Chad Bartek, Ryan Bartek; 7 great-grandchildren, Kayla Brhel, Parker Samson, Emily Brhel, Ethan Ostrander, Kegan Brhel, Kiara Waegli, Beverly Waegli; family friend, Kathy Petska, Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Lumir and Deloris Brhel, Denton; sisters and brother-in-law, Blanche Daniels Tracy, Crete, Martha and Rudy Krupicka, Denton, Alice Sysel, Friend; and a host of friends.
