IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rebecca
Scheele
February 20, 1950 – March 31, 2019
Rebecca Jo Scheele was born on February 20, 1950, in Seward, to Alan Douglas and Audrey Fay (Furtwangler) Rutledge and passed away in Utica surrounded by her family March 31, 2019, at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 11 days.
Becky grew up in Utica where she was active in the horse and pony club. She attended school in Utica and graduated with the first class at Centennial High School in 1968. She attended Kearney State College where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in 1972. Becky taught school in Hampton and Osceola until her son, Jay, was born in 1977. She became a stay at home mom until the late 1980's when she began working as a Administrative Assistant to the principal at Centennial Public School. Becky began teaching again in 1990 at Shelby Public School, where she taught English, coached the Speech Team and directed the One-Act plays. She retired from Shelby after 21 years in 2011. While teaching, Becky returned to school herself and received her Master's of Education degree in 2001 from the University of Nebraska. She loved reading, flowers and gardening, and teaching her grandchildren how to sew and bake chocolate chip cookies. Becky loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she would spend time with nearly every day. She was a member of the Utica United Methodist Church and Utica UMW. Over the years she taught Sunday school and helped with Vacation Bible School. She was also a Volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. When it came time for the holidays she would have the kids carry totes from the basement, so she could decorate the house. Becky was famous for her special "wink."
She was preceded in death by her mother, Audrey; grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Becky is survived by her four children, Jay Scheele and wife Danielle, of Gresham, Kirk Scheele and wife Kristin, of David City, Kimberly Heimes and husband Ian, of Davey, Eric Scheele and Abby Tobin, of Beaver Crossing; father, Alan Rutledge and Roberta Mittan, both of Utica; eight grandchildren, Saige, Paityn, Eastyn, Case Scheele, Emma, Samuel, Noah Scheele and Tyler Heimes; sister, Kristi Rutledge and husband Steve Rice, of Omaha; aunt, Artie Rutledge, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Becky.
