Obituary

Reynelda Roberta Joan Maixner was born on May 19, 1927 in Dwight NE. Rey was the youngest of eleven children born to Hattie Gabriel Stava and Frank Joseph Maixner and passed away on August 5, 2013. Rey is survived by her 28 nieces and nephews. She graduated from Assumption High School where she was known as "Tootie". Rey attended the University of Nebraska. After college, she worked for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Social Security Administration. While working for Social Security, she lived in Lincoln NE, Wichita, KS, Cedar Rapids IA, and Topeka KS. Her positions included claims manager, field manager and assistant manager. After 37 years of service, she retired from the Social Security Administration. Following her professional life, Rey became increasingly active in many ministries at Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a founding member of the Serra Club which helps encourage religious vocations. She organized and hosted a Rosary group which met for 25 years. Additional interests included Let's Help, the Daughters of Isabella, as well as volunteering for the church's pancake breakfasts and funeral dinners. Other interests included the Topeka Pachyderms and watching Nebraska Cornhusker football games with the Kansans for Nebraska organization. Anyone who met Rey knew within a few minutes that she was Catholic, of Czech heritage, a Republican and a Nebraska Cornhusker. At family reunions, Rey enjoyed Czech poppy seed kolaches, roasted pork with sauerkraut, and apple strudel. Rey was compassionate, principled and hardworking. She expected much from those around her, but no more than she expected from herself. Her sense of humor and spunk consistently endeared others to her. Reynelda lived her life according to the values she learned from her family and her Catholic Faith. She will be forever in our hearts. A visitation will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka,Kansas, Thursday, August 8, 2013. The Rosary and funeral mass will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Let's Help, Marian Clinic, or Mass intentions.
