Reynold Jerald Holeka, known as “Reynie,” was born on June 28, 1936, to Jerald “Jerry” and Mae (Sedlak) Holeka on a farm near David City. He passed away on September 12, 2026, in Seward at the age of 90 years, 2 months, and 15 days. He lived on that farm near David City until the family relocated to a farm east of Brainard. He attended East Butler Public School in Brainard and graduated in 1955. After graduation, he joined his father on the family farm, where they farmed and raised cattle.
Reynie was united in marriage to Helen Jean Timms on October 19, 1957, in David City. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage and built a life filled with family, friends, and many cherished memories. They were blessed with three children: Julie, Doug, and Becky. Reynie continued farming and raising cattle until his retirement.
Reynie was an active member of the Brainard community. He served with the Brainard Volunteer Fire Department and was president of the Brainard Rural Fire District Board. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. For five years, he graded roads throughout Brainard and Butler County, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. For several years, Reynie and Helen also had fun working together at Branched Oak Lake.
Reynie’s greatest joy, however, came from his family. He was especially proud of his five grandchildren—Chad, Niki, Cortney, Dylan, and Drew—and his 13 great-grandchildren, who brought him great happiness throughout his life.
Reynie was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Mae Holeka; in-laws, Brittain and Helen Timms; brother, Gary Holeka; sister, Adalyne Svoboda; and grandson-in-law, Jim Zitek.
Those who survive to cherish his memory include his wife, Helen Holeka, Brainard; daughter, Julie (Rick) Novacek, Brainard; son, Doug Holeka, Brainard; daughter, Becky (Bob) Codr, Lincoln; grandchildren, Chad (Steph) Novacek, Adams, Niki (Trevor) Svoboda, Seward, Cortney (Andrew) Steffensmeier, Norfolk, Dylan (Anna) Codr, Bee, and Drew (Maddie Brockman) Codr, Lincoln; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bobbi Holeka, Brainard, Mary Ann Aerts, Columbus, and Roxie Timms, Adams; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
