Richard Dee Christian was born December 14, 1930 to Carl William and Dorothy Mildred (Vogt) Christian at their home in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. Richard went to his heavenly eternal home on February 6, 2010 at the age of 79 years, 1 month, 23 days. Richard attended Beaver Crossing Public School graduating with the class of 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Army July 31, 1951 and served most of his time in Germany HQ Co 109th Engrs. Battalion 7th Army at Manheim, Germany. Richard returned home from Germany in July of 1953 and remained in the Army Reserves until July 1959 and received his honorable discharge on July 30, 1959. Richard was honored with a 50-year membership with Holmes American Legion Post No. 178 at Beaver Crossing on March 15, 2003. He had served as the Post Commander in 1966. Richard was a member of the Crete Berean Church, Seward/Milford Gideon Camp, a life member of the National Rifle Association, past member of Voiture 103 40 Et 8 in Lincoln, past member of Beaver Crossing Volunteer Fire Department, the Beaver Crossing Chamber of Commerce and the Beaver Crossing Community Betterment Council. Richard was a working part of the Christian Service Station and Garage with Tank Wagon Service to the farming community for over 40 years. In the Fall of 1953, Richard, brother-in-law, Berle Noler and father, Carl Christian were made equal partners of Christian Service. On September 5, 1954, Richard was united in marriage to Joyce Nadene White at the Methodist Church in Beaver Crossing and to this happy union three children were born Brad Lee, Debra Ann and Terri Lynn. Richard accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life in November 1970. He was an active member for several years of Lay Witness Teams sharing his testimony of faith in many church gatherings. After the death of his father and brother-in-law it came to a time he could not carry on the business by himself and the station/garage was sold in November of 1983. Richard then took employment in the tire shop of Wheeler's Country General Farm Store in Seward selling and repairing tires and helping people "get back on the road"-he loved people. Richard and Joyce moved to Seward in August of 1993 to be closer to their jobs. Richard retired in September of 1998. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorothy Christian; brothers-in-law, Berle Noler and Leroy Butler; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Lois Babel; sisters-in-law, Joye Beth White and Evelyn White and a niece Candas Fain.
