Richard Elwin Collister was born at Newman Grove, Nebraska on September 19, 1927 and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on December 3, 2008 at the age of 81 years, 2 months, 14 days. He grew up on a dairy farm near Paxton, Nebraska and graduated from Paxton High School in 1945. He was a 1951 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. Richard was united in marriage to Ermal Mae Edwards on September 13, 1947 at First United Methodist Church in Lincoln. He was employed as the payroll coordinator with Dorsey Laboratories from 1952-1986.
Richard was a member of the Dwight Community Club, and helped edit the Dwight Centennial Book in 1987. He was a member of the Dorsey Laboratories Retiree Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lincoln, and had served on many committees and boards, was a church school teacher and participated in the music of the church. Richard liked music, gardening and working with flowers, and reading.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Daisy Collister, his brother, Robert George Collister and his sister, N. Janice Pierce Geseking.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ermal Collister of Dwight; two sons, R. Paul Collister and wife, Diane of Lincoln, David Collister and wife, Patricia, of Dwight; two granddaughters, M. Elizabeth Beth Scherbarth and husband, Chet, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Melanie Collister-Foulk and husband, T. Daniel, of Seward; three great grandchildren, Gracie Scherbarth and Chloe Scherbarth of St. Louis and Alexander Xander Foulk of Seward; honorary granddaughter, Elizabeth Soukup and husband James of Lincoln; nieces and nephews.
