Richard Paul Hartmann was born October 18, 1932 in Seward, Nebraska to William and Magdalena (Bender) Hartmann. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Garland. Richard attended Zion Lutheran, Garland and graduated from Garland High School in 1950. On February 25, 1953 he was inducted into the United States Army. He served in Korea from July of 1953 until December of 1954. He attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward and received a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1960. Richard retired from Lutheran teaching in 1995. He served the following congregations; Immanuel Lutheran, Bay City, MI; Deshler Lutheran, Deshler, NE; Mt. Calvary Lutheran, Detroit, MI; Zion Lutheran, Bay City, MI; Holy Cross Lutheran, Saginaw, MI; St. Luke Lutheran, Santa Rosa, CA; and Zion Lutheran, Tobias, NE. Since retiring from Lutheran education, he worked for his brother, Bill at Hartmann Construction, Seward. He was a member and organist at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lincoln and was also a member of the Lincoln Lutheran Choir and the American Legion Post No. 369 in Garland. Richard was united in marriage to Arlys Bicknese on August 6, 1961 in Wykoff, Minnesota. Richard passed away on April 19, 2006 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 6 months, 1 day.

He was preceded in death by twin daughters, Arlys and Marlys Hartmann; son, Paul Hartmann; his parents, William and Magdalena Hartmann; brother, Donald Hartmann and foster sister, Dorothy Hill.

Richard is survived by his wife, Arlys Hartmann, Seward; daughter and spouse, Rachael and Kent Schierkolk and children Emily and Arik Schierkolk, Wamego, KS; daughter and spouse, Rebecca and Donald Frank and sons, John and Matthew Frank of Alma, KS; sister-in-law, Della Hartmann, Seward, brother and wife, William and Doris Hartmann, Seward; brother and wife, Walter and Viola Hartmann, Minden; sister and husband, Jeanette and Emil Lampe, Waco; brother and wife, James and Ardath Hartmann, Seward; sister and husband, Marjorie and Daniel Heibel, Lincoln; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mercedes Schultz, Wykoff, MN; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
