Richard Lee Bennett was born May 21, 1942 in Harlan, Iowa, to Kenneth E. and Eva Laura (Crandall) Bennett and passed away on January 19, 2021 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 29 days. He attended grade school in Shenandoah, Iowa and graduated from high school in Schuyler, Nebraska with the Class of 1960.

Dick joined the United States Navy in 1961 and served for 4 ½ years, stationed at Coronado Island, San Diego, CA. He returned home to Seward, NE in 1965 where he worked at The Bakery with his Dad, Bob Bennett.

Dick met the love of his life, Lucille Masek in 1965, and they were married October 28, 1967 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses, NE.

Dick and Lucy were blessed with 5 wonderful children, Stephannie (Chris) Schmitt, Christopher (Heather) Bennett, Thomas (Jeanette) Bennett, Jason (Kami) Bennett & Kierra Bennett. In 1981 Dick & Lucy purchased The Bakery in Seward, NE and operated it for 33 amazing years. Besides working at The Bakery every morning, Dick worked full time as a clerk at The United States Post Office in Lincoln, NE, retiring after 28 years.

Dick leaves to mourn his passing:  Lucy, his wife of 53 years; his 5 children; 20 grandchildren; mother, Dorothy Bennett; brother, Russell (Monia) Bennett, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Bennett and sister, Peg Jones. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Dick.
