Richard William Prochnow was born February 7, 1928 in Seward County, Nebraska to Herman and Emma (Ficken) Prochnow and passed away on July 21, 2008 at his home in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 5 months, 14 days. Richard was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward in 1928. He attended school at Rural District No. 1 for one year and then attended St. John Lutheran School until he was confirmed on April 8, 1943. He then attended Seward Public Schools, graduating in May, 1947. Richard helped his father on their farm and worked at Texaco gas station, moving to Lincoln in 1948. Richard was united in marriage to Geraldine Marie Suhr on April 21, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. The couple had three sonsMike, Gary and Bill. Richard worked as a plasterer, receiving Union Gold Card for 30 years of service in plastering. He worked for Dale Eaton and Company for 21 years, purchasing the company in 1967. In 1994, he became semi-retired and dispersed the company. He lived with his wife in Lincoln for 23 years before moving to a farm south of Middle Creek Church on Highway 34 which he farmed for 45 years. He retired from farming in 1999 and he and Geraldine moved to Seward.
Richard is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Becky Prochnow of Seward, Gary and Kathy Prochnow of Pleasant Dale and Bill Prochnow of Casper, WY; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Eunice Crabtree of Idaho Falls ID; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don and Barb Suhr of Seward and Ardis Prochnow of Lincoln; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Prochnow; his parents, Herman and Emma Prochnow; an infant sister, Harriet; brother, Raymond Prochnow; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Crabtree and Darrell Suhr and sister-in-law, Gwen Menze.
