Richard Herman Gragg was born October 28, 1931 at home at 129 S. 12th Street in Seward to Samuel and Viola (Burgess) Gragg and passed away on October 31, 2008 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 77 years and 3 days. Butch was a graduate of Seward High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on February 24, 1952 in Omaha. Butch served in Germany as a cook. Upon his discharge in February 17, 1954, he moved back to Seward where he returned to work at Hughes Brothers as a forklift operator. Butch met JoAnn Leone Weitzel while working at Hughes Brothers, they where married on July 10, 1955 at the United Brethren Church in Seward. Butch then went to work for the City of Seward in 1960 until an illness and several surgeries forced him to stop working in 1988. Butch was a member of the United Methodist Church in Seward, Life member of the Seward American Legion Post #33, Disabled American Veteran Chapter #7 and the Seward VFW Post #4755 where he served as past commander. He also was a volunteer at Sundermann Homes. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Viola Gragg and his wife, JoAnn Gragg. Butch is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Weitzel of Lindsay, Nebraska; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Viola and Chester Chet Holland of Bellevue, Nebraska; loving caregiver of 18 years, Trish Collister of Dwight, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews and cousins. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Butch. |
