Rita Mae Hruska, 38, of Ulysses, died Saturday, July 29, in Omaha. Ms. Hruska was born May 2, 1968, at Seward to Ronald John Sr. and Rita Jeanne (Rolenc) Hruska. She was a 1986 graduate of David City High School. She obtained her degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1990 in Food Science and Technology/Pre-Pharmacy. She went on to graduate with a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1994. Some of her many noteworthy collegiate activities included: President of the Academy of Students of Pharmacy, President of Kappa Epsilon, The Deans Student Committee, Chancellors Advisory Council, American Pharmaceutical Association (APHA-ASP), UNMC College of Pharmacy Rep., Nebraska Pharmacy Association Member, the Greater Omaha Pharm.Association, and the Georgia Pharm. Association.

Ritas scholarships included: the Dow Science Scholarship, the Gibb/Glock Academic Scholarship, the Cornish Scholarship, the Portia A. Goke Scholarship, the Plough Pharmacist Scholarship, the Thomas J. OHollerna Scholarship, and a University of Nebraska Foundation Scholarship. She served as Vice President of her Pharmacy Class and received the UNMC College of Pharmacy Deans Achievement Award, the APHA-ASP Certification of Recognition, the Cunningham Award of Pharmacodynamics, the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Grant and she was on the Juvenile Diabetics Foundation. In her pharmacy career Rita worked at the Eppley Cancer Institute, Interim Healthcare, Pfizer Central Research, Village Walk Pharmacy, and as the manager at the Eckerd Drug Co., Savannah, GA.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, Ron Sr. and Nadine of Ulysses, seven brothers and five sisters-in-law, Ron Jr. and Robin of Lincoln, Mark and Janet and Joe and Diane, all of Ulysses, Chris and Connie of Blue Springs, Mo., Philip of New York, Andy of Omaha, and Matthew and Denise of Quincy, Il; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Mary and Kelly Buckley, Ann and Joe Giebler, and Jane and Dean Baumert, all of Omaha, Joan and Jeff Kisling of Milford, Ia., and Janice and Rob Krohn of Boulder, Colo.; 30 nieces and nephews and one great-nephew. Her mother, Rita, preceded her in death.

Ritas greatest joy was her Catholic faith and her devout prayer life was her one true passion. She also enjoyed reading, walking, listening to music, creating watercolor masterpieces, her family, and conversations over a good cup of coffee. Rita Mae greatly appreciated the simple things life had to offer, including the gift of life itself.
