Robert Lee Briggs was born June 3, 1934 in Seward, Nebraska to Rex Scott and Ollie Louise (Buckmaster) Briggs; he was raised with his sister, Beth and brother, Bill on the family farm. Bob was a 1952 graduate of Seward High School. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Bob was united in marriage to Susan Ellen McGrath on January 9, 1960 and their marriage was blessed with three children, Bob, Tom and Dan. Bob farmed in the Seward area with his family his entire life and they were innovative in their farming and cattle feeding operations. Bob was recognized with The Seward County Hall of Agricultural Achievement Award in 2008. Other memberships included Oliver Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M. Seward, Ducks Unlimited, Seward Country Club and his greatest membership is with the farming family with which he works. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Rex S. and Ollie L. Briggs and his longtime friend and co-worker, Doug "Stretch" Frank. Bob passed away on June 5, 2010 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 76 years and 2 days. He is survived by his wife, Susan Briggs of Seward; sister, Beth Griffin, Seward; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Carole Briggs of Seward; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Ann Briggs, Tom and Sue Briggs, Dan and Nicky Briggs, all of Seward; grandchildren, Jackson, Ross, Ben, Sam, Luke, Max, Blair, and Makenzie; nephews and nieces and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Bob. Bob volunteered for research in treatments for multiple myeloma through UNMC. |
