Obituary

Robert William Heyen was born August 8, 1926 in Milford, Nebraska to Claus and Myrtle Crolla (Bloodhart) Heyen and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on January 23, 2013 at the age of 86 years, 5 months, 15 days. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Delores Darlene Imig in 1948 and their union was blessed with four children. In 1988, Bob was united in marriage to Nona Belle (Lake) Burwell. Bob was a 15 year employee of the City of Seward as Water and Sewer Commissioner and was Maintenance Supervisor for Hughes Brothers for 21 years. Bob was a faithful member of Seward United Methodist Church since May 28, 1950. He was actively involved in the Seward community in the following capacities: member of Seward Volunteer Fire Department for 62 years, Seward Housing Authority, Seward County Aging Services Commission, Seward Aging Services Commission, life member VFW Post #4755 (Post Commander and District Commander); Seward American Legion Post #33, past president Seward Area A.A.R.P.; former Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader; past president of Seward Country Club. Bob was a major force in organizing the Seward Lied Senior Center. He was a dedicated caregiver and volunteer. Bob enjoyed Husker sports, golfing, riding his motorcycles and traveling. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Myrtle Heyen; his wife, Delores Heyen; sister, Margaret Kenney; son-in-law, Doyle Rhoades, step-son, Scott Burwell. Bob is survived by his wife, Nona Heyen; sons and daughter-in-law, Ron Heyen, Lincoln, Timothy and Madge Heyen, Cadiz, KY; daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy Rhoades and Marvin Taylor, Terri and Jon Burchess, all of Lincoln; step-son and wife, Perry "Alan" and Rita Burwell, Westport, MA; eight grandchildren, Kim Lee, Dustin Rhoades, Josh Hans, Eric Heyen, Jaclyn Heyen, Beau Heyen, Crystal Moore, Tony Burwell; 10 great-grandchildren, Emma Lee, Corbin Rhoades, Rachel Rhoades, Sierra Ulfers, Sage Hans, Liam Heyen, Macey Moore, Cayden Moore, Gracie Burwell, Ryker Burwell; brothers and sister-in-law, Leo Heyen, Boyd and Mildred Heyen, all of Milford, Willis Heyen, Seward and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Bob.
