Robert William Ponec was born May 9, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Charles and Emma (Hostek) Ponec and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on June 20, 2011 at the age of 88 years, 1 month, 11 days. Robert attended Loma Public School through the 10th grade and graduated from Dwight Assumption High School in 1942. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was awarded a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. Robert was united in marriage to Margaret Mary Linhart on April 15, 1947 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bison, Oklahoma. To this union four children were born, Michael, John, Benita and Marie. They lived on a farm near Loma and later moved to Bee and Robert worked for Hughes Brothers for 17 1/2 years and then moved to Lincoln and worked for Valentino's Pizza for 20 years as a cook. He retired in 1999 and moved to Seward. Robert was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church. Other memberships included Seward VFW Post #4755, Catholic Workman and Knights of Columbus Council #8469 in Seward. Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ponec in 2002; his father, Charles Ponec and his mother and stepfather Emma and Joseph Capoun, and his brother William Ponec. Robert is survived by his children and their spouses, Michael Ponec, Seward, John and Lynda Ponec, Eagle, Benita and Thomas Hadwick, Lincoln, Marie and Al Antanelis, Omaha; brother and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Claris Capoun, Schuyler, Elsie Ponec, David City; sister and brother-in-law, Myra and Bernie Kouma, Lincoln; grandchildren, Jennifer Ponec, Joe Ponec and A.J. Antanelis; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Robert. |
