Robert Carl Witzel was born November 29, 1919 to Carl and Evelyn (Dusatko) Witzel and passed away at his farm near Dwight, Nebraska on March 25, 2008 at the age of 88 years, 3 months, 26 days. Bob was a graduate of Brainard High School and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He lived in Omaha and worked for Swift Meats before returning to the family farm near Brainard. On October 1, 1940 he was united in marriage to Betty C. Prohaska at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Omaha. To this union two daughters were born, Ruth and Susan. Bob was a farmer; a member of the Red Poll Cattle Association and former President of the Farmers Union Coop of Brainard. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard and Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight. Bob and Betty moved to Dwight in 1965 and Betty passed away in 1966. Bob was formerly a member of the Dwight Village Board and the Mayor of Dwight; he was instrumental in developing the low income housing in the Dwight School building. In 1973, Bob was united in marriage to Josephine Bratrsovsky Kratochvil. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty C. Witzel; his parents, Carl and Evelyn Witzel; his brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Elsie Witzel; his brother, William Witzel; his son-in-law, Jerome Hottovy and a great-grandbaby, Anna Rose Prochaska. Bob is survived by his wife, Josephine Witzel of Dwight; his daughters, Ruth (Witzel) Hottovy of Brainard and Susan (Witzel) and her husband, Ken Bohuslavsky of Bee; stepdaughter and her husband, Bernadette and Larry Schneider of Lincoln; grandchildren, Bill Hottovy, Dean Hottovy, Krista and Paul Prochaska, Nicole Bohuslavsky, Mike Bohuslavsky, Sarah and Jon Erwin, Jenny and Tim Watson, Todd and Aaron Schneider, Christopher Schneider and Matthew Schneider; a step-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Marie Witzel of Brainard; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Bob. |
