Robert LeRoy Workman was born in Ulysses, Nebraska on July 28, 1926 to Isaac Earl "Dan" and Sadie C. (Bivens) Workman and passed away on January 17, 2010 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 83 years, 5 months, 20 days. In high school, Jack was skilled at all sports, lettering in all areas in his senior year. He was the state boxing champion two out of three years for the Ulysses High School Trojans. He was a 1944 graduate of Ulysses High School. In 1944, he gained employment with Hughes Brothers, Inc. He retired from Hughes Brothers in 1988 after spending more than 20 years as the foreman of the boring department. The only interruption in his employment at Hughes Brothers was when he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. Jack served his country with pride and great dignity. Jack was an active member of his community. For many years he volunteered as a girl's softball coach for the Seward Recreation Department, helped countless others with home repair projects, taught many youth the sanctity of human life while teaching them to hunt and fish, and modeled the importance of Christian service through his willingness to not just lend a helping hand, but by always being generous in extending a hand already prepared to go to work. Jack was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church and a life member of VFW Post No. 4755 Seward. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Laura Workman; four brothers, Isaac Earl, Jr., Glenn, Ralph, Donald; one sister, Aretta Workman. Jack is survived by his wife, Maryanne Hubbard-Workman of Seward; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Larry Urbanek of Dwight, Laura Workman Eells and Michael Eells of McPherson, KS; two grandchildren, Kristen and Aaron Finley and Daniel Robert Eells and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Logan Finley. Also, he is the dear step-father to David and Lori Sanders of Dwight, Diane and Dan Post of Lincoln and step-grandfather to Nicholas Sanders, Melissa and Jason Smith and Gloria and Adam Olson. As his love was bountiful, it enriched the lives of many. |
