It is with great sadness that the family of Robin Lynn Wambold announces his passing on October 2, 2024, at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 27 days.
Robin was born in Fargo, North Dakota on May 5, 1958, to Richard and Ardys (Reel) Wambold. While growing up, he worked at his father's business (Wambold Furs) where he hunted, trapped, and sold fur pelts. Robin grew up in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska where he attended Centennial Public Schools with the graduating class of 1977. Robin briefly attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln where he played for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He started working for Burlington Northern Railway in August of 1978. He worked for the railroad for 40 years and retired in May of 2018. On March 11, 1988, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Kunert. Two sons, Patrick and Trevor, were born into this union.
Music was a huge part of Robin's life. He was the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Homegrown Band for more than thirty years. He enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball, hunting, fishing, playing Santa every year, and using his smoker. He loved helping friends and family on their farms. If you saw Robin outside of his house, he was in his overalls and making everyone laugh.
He was known to give nicknames to his closest friends and family. He was also known by many different names, but his favorite name of all time was Grandpa. One of his favorite things to do was visit Table Rock Lake with his family every year.
Robin is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Dolores Kunert; and grandparents.
Survivors cherishing his memory include his wife, Cheryl Wambold; sons Patrick and wife, Mikala (Karber) Wambold, Trevor and wife, Brittany (Ringler) Wambold; grandchildren, Zoey (7), Payton (3), Miles (2), and Karson (1); beloved dog, Max; brothers, Robert Wambold and James (Suse) Wambold; sister, Angela (David) Rhoads; brothers-in-law, Steve (Connie) Kunert, Ronald (Sue) Kunert, John (Judy) Kunert, Mark (Theresa) Kunert; sisters-in-law, Janet (Jere) Leif, Cindy (Stu) Kinnett, Sandra (Kent) Smetter, Teresa (Randal) Nichelson; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
A graveside service and inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Beaver Crossing, NE at a later date.
