Roland Walter Barth was born west of Milford on June 13, 1908 to Jacob and Frieda (Hohn) Barth. He was confirmed and joined the Salem Methodist Church in 1920. He attended Pilot Nobb School. As a young man Roland worked in the Goehner area for some years and then moved near Utica where he transferred his membership from the Salem Church to the Utica Methodist Church in 1934. Roland was the Seward County Champion Corn Picker for 3 years and then won the State Contest in 1932. In 1982, Roland was the champion corn picker for the 75-year old seniors division in Bellevue. Roland was united in marriage to Opal Morris on January 27, 1935 at the Methodist Church in Utica. To this union three sons were born, Larry Roland, Duane Walter and Rodney Morris. They lived on a farm south of Utica for 40 years before moving to Utica in 1975. Roland was a 70 year member of the Utica United Methodist Church having held many offices, as well as being Lay Leader for many years. He was a director of the Seward County Museum and volunteered every Thursday on workday. He was a member of the Utica Coop Gas and Oil Company, a member of Utica Masonic Lodge A. F. & A.M. No. 96, a director of the Utica Community Care Center and their Handy Man as well. Roland was on the Utica Cemetery Board and served as caretaker of grounds for 15 years. Roland passed away on November 17, 2005, in Utica at the age of 97 years, 5 months, 4 days.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Frieda Barth, his six brothers, Reinhold, Carl, Paul, Harvey, Gilbert and Ervin; five sisters, Martha Andrews, Lydia Knuth, Esther Hartman, Naomi Compton, and Louise Hemsath.

Roland is survived by his wife, Opal Barth; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Barb Barth, Utica, Duane and Vonie Barth, Utica, Rodney and Paulette Barth, Seward; 9 grandchildren, Deb and Rick Hemphill, Doug and Barb Barth, Brad and Karen Barth, Diane Barth, Carol and Bryan Conway, Alan and Christel Barth, Shelli and Gary Knickerbocker, Carisa and Zeke Fogarty, Rainey and Jason Bennett; 18 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hazel Barth, Lincoln, Marie Barth, Seward, Berniece Barth, Milford; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
