Ruby June (Ferdig) Cook was born April 25, 1914 in Smithland, Iowa to Edwin and Annabell (Pilker) Ferdig and passed away on October 18, 2009 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 95 years, 5 months, 23 days. Ruby was a 1932 graduate of Smithland High School; she attended Morningside College for one year. On October 12, 1936, Ruby was united in marriage to Kenneth Marvin Cook at Elk Point, South Dakota. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Boyd, Sherry and Robert. The family moved to Loup City, Nebraska in 1948. Upon Kenneth's retirement, Ruby and Kenneth moved to Seward in July of 1977. Ruby was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of P.E.O. Chapter CC in Seward. Ruby was active at the Lied Senior Center in Seward. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Annabell Ferdig; her husband, Kenneth Cook in 1994, two brothers, Boyd Ferdig and Wylie Ferdig; and two sisters, Sybil Fitzgerald and Louise Yockey.
Ruby is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Boyd Cook of Omaha and Robert and Nancy Cook of Bellevue; her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bob Parish of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Joel Cook, Rachelle and her husband Jacob Johnson, Jacqueline and her husband Adam McCracken, Suzanne Rogers, and Elizabeth Rogers and great-grandchildren, Caydon McCracken and Meghan McCracken and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Ruby.
