Obituary

Russell "Red" Allen Keller was born on July 23, 1919, in Colfax County, Nebraska to Robert and Edith Mae (Black) Keller and passed away on August 17, 2013, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 94 years and 25 days. Russell attended country school until the 8th grade, then he began attending school in Schuyler, Nebraska. Russell was a farmhand for area farmers until he and a friend rode a motorcycle to Kansas to begin working on the Railroad. From there he rode a train to Utah and worked in the Sugar Beet fields then he moved on to Oregon and Washington where he picked apples and worked in the beet fields. Russell enlisted into the United States Army on January 22, 1941, he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and finished his Army career as a Physical Trainer at Camp Roberts. He was honorably discharged on September 12, 1945. Upon his discharge he attended Milford Technical School. It was there that he met his future wife Marion Wurst. According to the story she had seen Russell around and was trying to find a way to meet him. So she unscrewed her lug nuts on a wheel, she eventually lost it and asked Russell to help her fix it. They were married on April 28, 1951, in Milford. In the spring of 1951, the couple along with Russell's brother John purchased the Seward Tire and Battery Company. They worked together for nearly 50 years until it closed in 2000. Russell was a member of Seward United Methodist Church, Tri-C's, and Seward Safari Camping Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marion in January of 2000, two brothers, Chester Norris Keller and John Robert Keller. Russell is survived by his four children and their spouses; Nancy (J. Edward) Long of Overland Park, KS; Bruce (Patrice) Keller of Omaha, NE; Kevin (Janet) Keller of Lincoln, NE; and Brian (Jeanette) Keller of Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren; Courtney (Brian) Anderson, Matthew J. Long and fiancé Leigh Freidman, Blake Keller, Jamie (Neal) Olson, Jenny (Jason) Johnson, Kris (Kim) Keller, Scott (Brittney) Keller, Crew Keller, Braly Keller and Quinn Keller, 6 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Eleanor Stark, and Kay Keller, brothers-in-law, Neil and Donna Wurst of Milford and Phillip and Sally Wurst of Seward; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
