Ruth Elaine (Corbit) Canning was born August 7, 1931 in Chester, Nebraska, the daughter of Rev. Elmer Wendell and Ruth Marie (Watson) Corbit. Ruth was raised with many brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Chester High School and then attended Fairbury Junior College and Nebraska Wesleyan University. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education from Concordia (College) University in Seward. On December 28, 1950, Ruth was united in marriage to Virgil Claude Canning at the parsonage in Chester, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Brenda, Larry, and Greg.
Ruth taught school in the Seward Public School System for 37 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church, Chancel Choir, TriC's, and United Methodist Women.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ruth Corbit and her step-father, Lawrence Eickman and her brothers, Don, Dale, Warren and Neal Eickman.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Virgil of Seward; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Don Royer of Omaha, sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Steph Canning of Seward and Greg and Lorri Canning of Seward; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Liz Canning, Evan Canning, Nicole Canning; siblings and spouses, Milton Eickman of Hebron, Wayne and Betty Corbit of Stromsburg, Ruth Eickman of Lincoln, Marge and Larry Tekolste of Des Moines, IA, Betty and Paul Bradford of Tempe, AZ; sisters-in-law, Gwen Eickman of Lincoln and Donna Eickman of Bellevue; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Ruth.
