Ruth Adelheid (Lipps) Schlueter was born December 20, 1914 in Emerald, Nebraska to Anna (Meyers) and Ernest Lipps, the third of eight children. She passed away in Seward, Nebraska on February 6, 2009 at the age of 94 years, 1 month, 17 days. Ruth attended school in Emerald until the 10th grade and then graduated from Lincoln High School in 1933. She attended the University of Nebraska and received a teaching certificate (credential) and taught at District 107 in Emerald for two years. On January 17, 1938, Ruth was united in marriage to Erwin A. Schlueter and their marriage was blessed with three children. When the children were older Ruth returned to teaching. She taught in Ruby for 2 years, Goehner for 2 years and then with Seward Public Schools from 1959-1985. While teaching she continued her education at Concordia Teachers College in Seward and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1966. After retiring she continued to substitute teach for 7 years at Seward High School. She stopped when her last first grade class graduated from high school. Ruth was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Four Jays Womens Club, Optimist Club, and the retired teachers group. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin; her brother, Otis Lipps and her sisters, Antonette Toni Bluhm, Esther Bartu and Cecelia Thomas. Ruth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Schlueter of Las Vegas, NV, Mureen Schlueter of San Francisco, CA, Tom and Susie Schlueter of Seward; daughter, Mureen Schlueter of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Christophe Schlueter, Marielle Schlueter Ritchie and husband, Jon Ritchie, Caroline Schlueter, Tommy Schlueter, Michelle Munger and husband, Paul Munger; great-grandchildren, Joseph Ritchie and Marlowe Ritchie, Jonah Harrington and Kailee Harrington; her brother, Robert Lipps of Lincoln; sisters, Ione Smith of Chicago, IL and Mildred Harvey of Council Bluffs, IA; her beloved dog, Montana; other relatives and a host of friends.
