IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sally A.
Manzer
June 2, 1950 – September 14, 2024
Sally Ann Manzer, 74, of Seward, Nebraska, formerly of Atkinson, passed away on September 14, 2024, in Seward after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born to Frederick and Edythe (Hackl) Hirschman on June 2, 1950, in Norfolk, Nebraska.
She was raised in Madison, graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School in 1968 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wayne State College in 1971. She married Tim Manzer on June 16, 1973, and they started their life together in Orchard, where they both had their first teaching jobs. After a few years, they moved to Atkinson where they owned and operated Manzer's Convenience Store for 25 years and raised their family. After their kids were grown and they sold their business, they had teaching jobs in Hartington and Winside before moving to Seward to retire.
Sally enjoyed sewing, quilting, working in her flower beds, reading, walks, home decorating, shopping, mystery book club and volunteer work. Before her health declined, Sally enjoyed being involved in the Seward community. She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, served as a Teammates mentor and volunteered at the Seward Senior Center. Sally always looked forward to get-togethers and little trips with her circle of Seward friends. She loved following all Cornhusker sports teams, especially volleyball. Sally's unwavering faith, even during her illness, was an inspiration to those who knew her.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Tim, and parents, Frederick and Edythe Hirschman.
Sally is survived by her children, Shannon (Danny) Boes of Valentine, Heather (Mark) Schanou of North Platte, Kevin (Amy) Manzer of Norfolk; grandchildren, Lindsey, Grant and Cole Boes of Valentine and Jack, Elise, Ella and Jace Manzer of Norfolk; siblings, Richard Hirschman of Fremont, Susan (Jack) Buser of Rosemount, MN, Michele Hirschman of Fremont, and Mary (Dan) Rose of Zionsville, IN; an aunt, Betty Hirschman of Bastrop, TX.
Memorials can be made to St. Gianna Women's Home in Lincoln, CEDARS Youth Services in Lincoln, Seward Senior Center, TeamMates, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward, or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Seward.
