Obituary

Sharon May (Sramek) Holliday was born in Max, Nebraska on April 25, 1949, to Henry Sramek and Josephine (Dvorak) Sramek. She passed away on October 19, 2015 in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 66 years, 5 months, 24 days, surrounded by her adoring family. Sharon grew up in Max and graduated from Stratton High School in 1967. From the time she was 14, Sharon taught dance lessons in Stratton, Benkelman, and McCook. She attended McCook Junior College, and in 1969 she moved to Lincoln to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1971. Sharon met and fell in love with Dennis "Doc" Holliday in 1964. They were married on December 27, 1969 in McCook, Nebraska. They moved to Lincoln soon after so that Sharon could finish her degree. She did her student teaching at Lincoln Northeast High School in 1970. Together, Sharon and Denny raised five boys. She often talked about this time as being the best time of her life, being a mother, spending time with family friends, teaching dance, going on fishing trips together, and taking her children to sporting events. In 1990, she received her Masters Degree in Family and Consumer Science from the University of Nebraska. For 22 years, she was proud to be a Lincoln Northeast High School Rocket, serving as department chair and teaching innovative courses such as the Student-Parent program, Culinary Arts, Career Pathways, and Families and Crisis. Teaching was Sharon's passion. She had patience, compassion and empathy for her students, and worked to find every student's learning style and strength to succeed. Her career in education led her to her doctoral research on Multiple Intelligence pedagogy. At the time of her death, she was in the process of completing her PhD. Sharon received numerous teaching awards and accolades, including FCS Teacher of the Year in 2008 and numerous leadership awards and nominations. Sharon was enthusiastic about her Czech heritage and enjoyed seeing her children and grandchildren embrace these traditions. She also loved to travel and visited over 15 countries. Sharon embraced nature and was an avid bluebirder. As the Gage County co-coordinator for Bluebirds Across Nebraska, she frequently gave workshops to people of all ages interested in conservation and bluebirds. Sharon was a devout catholic and a member of the St. Mary's Parish in Lincoln. Sharon is survived by her husband, Dennis Holliday of Lincoln; her children and their spouses, Lael and Jill Holliday of Malcolm, Kurt and Hilary Holliday of Seward, Ryan Holliday of Lincoln, Brent Holliday of Manhattan, KS, Kevin Holliday of Shubert; six grandchildren, Katelynn Holliday, Josephine Holliday, Sidney Holliday, Courtney Holliday, Haylen Holliday, and Charley Holliday; siblings and spouse, Henry Sramek, Jr. of Palisade, Loretta (Sramek) and Stuart Crippen of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law and spouse, Charlene (Holliday) Myers of Fremont, Shari (Holliday) and Jim Krentzel of Olathe, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Josephine Sramek; parents-in-law, Charlie and Eloise (Siegfried) Holliday and sister-in-law, Kitty Sramek. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Sharon Memorials will be designated for an educational scholarship fund in Sharon Holliday's name.
