My Obituary: (You know I would have my final say. Ha!) Mom Shirley Maxine (Swanson) Herrold was born near Staplehurst, Nebraska on August 24, 1928 to Lawrence and Winnie (Johansen) Swanson and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on December 14, 2011 at the age of 83 years, 3 months, 21 days. Shirley grew up in the Staplehurst area and attended Country School District 14, Staplehurst High School and was a 1945 graduate of Seward High School. She was employed with Miller and Paine Department Store in Lincoln and taught school at Ritchie District #14 for three years. On June 20, 1948 Shirley was united in marriage to Alvin Herrold and their marriage was blessed with three children, A.J., Russell and Lori. They farmed in Seward for 63 years. Shirley also worked for H & R Block for several years. She was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and she loved to quilt and spent many happy times with her friends at Wednesday Morning Quilters. Shirley enjoyed Bridge Club for over 43 years; she also bowled and was an extension club member. She had a love of plants and was blessed with a "green thumb". She enjoyed sewing and crocheting for her family. Shirley was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Shirley is survived by her husband, Alvin Herrold; children, A.J. Herrold, III and wife, Pat, Russell Herrold, Lori Kreimer and husband, Kent Imig; grandchildren, Jesse and Karen Herrold, Rachelle and Scott Calahan, Dustin Herrold and fiancé Stacy Hotovy, Lauren Kreimer, Riley Kreimer; great-grandchildren, Kristoff, Dyson, Vancent, and Teyla Herrold, AnnaLivia and MacIntyre Calahan; sister, Romelle Johnson; brother-in-law and wife, Dale and Carol Herrold; brother-in-law, Don Beckman; Jon Kreimer and a host of friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Winnie Swanson; infant grandson, Derek Herrold; parents-in-law, Alvin and Irma Herrold; sister and husband, Lucille and Murvil Daehling; brother-in-law, Dick Johnson; sister-in-law, Lorrene and husbands, William Coufal and Loren Brunke; brother-in-law and wife, Thomas and Elsie Herrold; sister-in-law and husband, Margaret and Walter Scamehorn; sister-in-law, Alvina Beckman.
