Stella May Bridges was born in Hamil, Arkansas on July 26, 1939, the sixth child born to Samuel J. and Augusta Rose (Weber) Bridges and passed away on April 20, 2015 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 8 months, 25 days. Stella was one of ten children in her family. Two sisters, Waunta and Gladys died in infancy and she was raised with three sisters, Karen, Effie and Mary Ann and four brothers, Willard, James, William and Melvin. The family lived in various states during her childhood and young adulthood. Stella's father died in 1955, at the age of 49 years and according to Stella, "his death left a hole in my heart". Stella, her siblings and their mother moved several times in the ensuing years and after a period of time Stella went to live in a home in Enid, Oklahoma. In May of 1962, Stella moved to a farm near Ulysses, Nebraska to make her home with Bernice Nehls, her third cousin. Bernice always stated that Stella was like a sister to her and helped her out on the farm and in the home in many ways. Stella and Bernice moved to Seward on December 1, 1977 to a home on Elm Street. On May 25, 1994, Bernice and Stella moved to Sundermann Home. Bernice passed away in September of 2004 and Stella continued to make her home at Sundermann, now Ridgewood Rehabilitation and Care Center. Stella was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Garrison and she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Seward. She enjoyed embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, watching her favorite TV programs and videos, joining in with most of the activities and helping others. Stella always enjoyed a good laugh and the company of her friends. She always loved animals, particularly cats and dogs. Stella was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.Stella is survived by her "Family" at Ridgewood Care Center and her Grace Lutheran Church Family.
