Obituary

Steven Lee Rader was born September 29, 1954 in Broken Bow, NE, to Marvin and Ardeth (Wirz) Rader. He passed away peacefully on March 16, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln at age of 60 years, 5 months and 16 days. His early years were spent in Dunning and Kearney, Nebraska, and Wichita, Kansas. The family moved to Lincoln in 1965, and Steve lived there for the remainder of his life. Steve was an autistic individual. In 1989 he moved in to a group home. For 23 years he was lovingly cared for by Ben Diaz, who sadly passed in 2010. His roommate for over 20 years has been Jamie Cooper. Recently a third roommate, Sean Gies, was added to the fun loving environment of their home. Steve never learned to talk, however he did learn to communicate by shaking his head yes and no in response to questions. He also would put his head next to yours to show his love. He liked to walk and go for car rides, and in his childhood he loved to swing, as high as he could go. He loved to be up high, and adored the double ferris wheel at the fair though no one liked to ride with him much as he wanted to swing if it stopped at the very top. He enjoyed eating at Popeye's Chicken and he loved his Diet Dr. Pepper. He liked most music (except his siblings beginning instrument practices), colorful Christmas lights, and things with movement. Steven is survived by his mother, Ardeth (Wirz) Rader, brother, Ron Rader and his family, Michael, Andy, and Sam, sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Neil Boring and their family, Matthew and fiancé Hanna, and Casey, and sister, Sharon Brewster and her family, Brady and Bailey, uncle Gary and Carmen Wirz and family, uncle Ben and Vivian A. Saner and family, and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Rader, grandparents Seth and Ida Rader, and Ted and Phyllis Wirz, aunt Vivian Marie Saner, nephew Brian Boring, and long time care giver, Ben Diaz.
