Obituary

Suzanne Mary Geis Kolterman was born on December 7, 1950 at Memorial Hospital in Seward, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl and Adeline (Rerucha) Geis and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on November 27, 2017 at the age of 66 years,11 months, 20 days after an 18 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Suzanne was raised on the family farm near Goehner, attended Goehner Elementary School and graduated from Seward High School in 1969. She graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a degree in Consumer Education in 1972. She was united in marriage to Mark Kolterman on August 7, 1971 and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer (Stevens). Suzanne worked at the Cattle National Bank in Seward until 1981. Mark and Suzanne founded the Kolterman Insurance Agency in 1980 in Utica and later moved the business to Seward, where they worked together side-by-side for close to 40 years; also during this time Suzanne sold Real Estate.

Suzanne was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Seward. Suzanne and Mark served as two of the original Godparent leaders who were involved in bringing the Godparent program to Seward and who worked to spread the program to various churches in the community and also served as lector and catechism teacher. Suzanne was active on many church committees and co-chaired several major fundraising campaigns. Suzanne also served as a board member of the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation for 11 years and on the Diocese of Lincoln Foundation Board.

In 2016, Suzanne was named Business Woman of the Year by Concordia University. She was also active in PEO Chapter CC and was a member of the Seward Area Chamber of Commerce. Suzanne enjoyed traveling and experienced many wonderful trips all over the world, including her favorite vacation destination of Kaui, Hawaii.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her father, Carl Geis and her father-in-law, Don Kolterman.

Survivors cherishing Suzanne's life and memory include her husband, Mark Kolterman, Seward; daughters, Jessica Kolterman, Seward and Jennifer Stevens and her husband BJ and grandchildren Elliott, Graham, and Patrick Stevens, St. Paul MN; granddaughter, Teresa Marie Wilson, Lincoln; mother, Adeline (Rerucha) Geis,  Seward; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Ken Wright, Montgomery IL; sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Richard Jacobsen, Minden; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Cindy Geis, Maskell; brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Aranya Geis, Gilbert, AZ; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Kim Geis, Yorktown VA; mother-in-law, Betty Jean Kolterman, Seward; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clark and Linda Kolterman, Seward; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ellen and Ben Chaffin, Seward; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Charlene Kolterman, Norfolk; aunt, Betty Geis, Lincoln; aunt, Helen Nelson, Seward, aunt, Ann Rerucha, St. Charles, IL; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and many friends, neighbors, and community members. Suzanne leaves a legacy of service to her family, friends, and community. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Suzanne.
