Sylvan Eugene Asberry was born May 19, 1923 in Tina, Missouri to John Elijah and Margaret Irene (Woodcock) Asberry and passed away in Utica, Nebraska on May 1, 2010 at the age of 86 years, 11 months, 13 days. Following his schooling Sylvan worked on a farm and then served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. On July 14, 1963, Sylvan was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Hoffman at Rosemont, Illinois. He was a steel worker for Granite City Steel for many years. They moved to Seward from 1987-1997 and Sylvan returned to Seward in 2008. He was a member of VFW Post #4755 in Seward. Sylvan is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Asberry; his son, Jack Asberry, two grandsons, Jon Mifflin and Jason Mifflin; his sister, Carolyn, and brothers, Loy, Billie and Floyd and a stepson, Raymond. Sylvan is survived by his wife, Margaret Asberry, Seward; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick Asberry of Femandia Beach, Florida, Stan and Mary Mifflin of Seward, Louis and Cathy Mifflin of Big Rock, TN, Bruce and Joyce Mifflin of Seward; sister, Melba Taylor, Sikeston, MO; brother, Ervin Asberry, Murfreeboro, TN; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Jaime Mifflin, Matt Mifflin; four great-grandchildren, Annie, Rosie and Jon Mifflin, Tayler Hoffman; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Sylvan. |
