Thomas Willard Engler was born February 29, 1944 in Seward, Nebraska to Willard James and Helena Jane (Zillig) Engler and passed away on April 28, 2008 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 64 years, 1 month, 28 days. Tom was a 1962 graduate of Seward High School and attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln. On May 20, 1967, Tom was united in marriage to Marilyn Mower at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Lincoln. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, David and Rob. Tom worked for a short time for Brandeis in Omaha and in 1967 returned to Seward to start Engler Clothing which he owned and operated until 1985. Tom was employed with Hughes Brothers, Inc. and began employment with Seward Motor Freight, Inc. in 1992. He was promoted to Executive Vice-President in 2000,his current position. Tom served with many organizations throughout his years of commitment to the Seward area. He was on the Board of Directors of Midwest Federal Savings and Loan, a member of the Menswear Retailers of America, an officer in the Seward Industrial Development Corporation, President of the Seward Area Chamber of Commerce, an officer with the Seward Community Development Corporation, a member of the Seward Cemetery Board, Board of Directors of the Seward Federal Savings and Loan Assoc., Seward High School Distributive Education Council Board of Directors, Chairman of the Community Fund Drive for Concordia (College) University, Task Force Member of the Southeast Nebraska Health Planning Council, a member of Oliver Lodge #38, A.F. & A.M., member of the Seward Country Club, member of the Seward Volunteer Fire Department, Board Member and Past chairperson of the Foundation for Memorial Health Care Systems and Senior Warden and devoted member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Seward. Tom was preceded in death by his parents,Willard J. and Jane Engler and his parents-in-law, John R. and Dee Mower. Tom is survived by his wife, Marilyn Engler, Seward; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Engler, Lincoln and their children, Brittany, Kolton, Madilyn and Carsen; son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Teresa Engler, Burlington, Iowa and their children, Haley, Olivia and Andrew; cousins; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Ray Kiser, Lincoln and Gigi Mower, Valparaiso; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
