Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Michael Hoffman was born the youngest of six children to Mary (Hearty) and Albin Hoffman in Omaha, Nebraska on November 23, 1937 and passed away peacefully on September 6, 2015 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 77. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Cathedral High School in Omaha. Following in his father's trade, he worked in the Omaha Stockyards as a yardman and salesman in the mid-1950s. He then served in the US Army in the 4th Armored Division in Germany, Belgium and France, and returned to the stockyards in 1959. He was hired by Cudahy where he began his cattle buying career. Tom and family moved to Exeter, Nebraska in 1965 where he was a cattle buyer for several meatpacking companies over the years covering southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, and also served on the village council and school boards in Exeter. He retired from Erdkamp Motors in Exeter and most recently lived in Seward, Nebraska where he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Tom is survived by his significant other of 27 years, Carolyn (Candy) Herrold, of Seward; his three sons, Thomas Hoffman of Palisade, CO; Tim Hoffman and children, Andrew, Collin, Katherine and Matthew of Blair, NE; and Theodore Hoffman and wife Christine of Overland Park, KS; the mother of his sons, Jean Hoffman of Exeter; a sister, Theresa and husband, Dr. Joseph McCaslin of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Mick Hoffmann of North Platte, NE; and a brother-in-law, John "Jack" Minton of Omaha. He is also survived by his extended family Troy (and Candy) Herrold of Seward, Jason (and Kelly) Herrold of Lake Saint Louis, MO and Candy's grandchildren, Kelsey, Kalley, Zachary, Michael and Jacob. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Albin and Mary; two brothers, Albin and Larry; and two sisters, Mary Frances Brannen and husband, Dr. Charles Brannen and Regina Minton. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Tom.
