Obituary

Vada Elizabeth (Friebus) Schleusener was born on December 6, 1950, in Phillipsburg, Kansas,  and was baptized on December 17, 1950, the daughter of Theodore Christian and Irene Elizabeth (Wodtke) Friebus. She passed away on September 1, 2016 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 26 days. Vada grew up in Stuttgart, Kansas and graduated from Phillipsburg, Kansas with the class of 1968. She later attended Brown School of Business in Topeka, Kansas. After graduation she moved to Phoenix, AZ where she worked at Circle K for two years, moving back to Phillipsburg where she worked for the Phillipsburg Oil Refinery. Vada met Keith Schleusener in church and began dating in August of 1973 and they were married on June 28, 1974 in Stockton, KS. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Keith worked at his family farm in the Oxford area from 1974 to 1982; they moved to Seward in 1982, so their children could attend a Christian school. The family lived on the Rolfsmeier Dairy for 7 ½ years before moving to Utica in 1989. Vada was employed in the food service area at Centennial High School for many years and she also worked at Houchen Bindery. Vada was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Seward since 1982 where she was a member of the church choir and enjoyed singing praises to her Lord and Savior. Vada enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them about God. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a wonderful cook.

Vada was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Friebus and a brother-in-law, Curt Thumann.

Survivors include her husband Keith, Utica; children and spouses Nathan Schleusener, Lincoln, Ruth and Matt Merklinger, Denver, CO, Mark and Stacy Schleusener, Lincoln, Aaron and Rachel Schleusener, Watertown, SD, Anna Schleusener, Utica; six grandchildren Lydia, Keturah, Micah, Callah, Aubrey, and Levi. Additional survivors include Vada's mother, Irene Friebus; three sisters Carol (Tom) Johnson, Margaret Thumann, Lila (Bob) James; one brother Richard (Pam) Friebus; numerous nieces and nephews. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill (Myra) Schleusener, Brenda (Mike) Stanley, Cynthia (Jack) Cahill and a host of friends.
