Vaughn Louis Carlson was born July 12, 1931, in Valparaiso, Nebraska to Louis and Edla (Anderson) Carlson and passed away on April 19, 2025, in David City, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Vaughn grew up on a farm and loved the outdoors. He attended grade school and graduated high school from Valparaiso. Vaughn and Joanne met when Joanne was teaching in a one room schoolhouse near Valparaiso. He was always kind and helpful, offering Joanne a ride home after school. Vaughn worked as a lineman for Union Pacific. He was in the Army from 1952-1953 and received an honorable discharge as a Corporal.
Vaughn and Joanne were married on January 3, 1954. To this union 4 children were born, Melanie, Mark, Nick and Craig. The couple lived in Lincoln for several years while Vaughn worked for O'Shea-Rogers. After moving to Omaha, Vaughn began working for Western Electric as a service clerk. He retired after 30+ years in 1990 and never missed a day of work. Vaughn was a huge Husker football fan and loved to entertain everyone with his jokes. After retirement, he enjoyed more time for hunting and activities with family and grandchildren. You would often find Vaughn and Joanne having coffee on their front porch swing, visiting with the neighbors. Vaughn and Joanne traveled on many bus tours to Branson and enjoyed their favorite singer, Daniel O'Donnell. Together they loved visiting and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vaughn's memory includes three sons, Dr. Mark & Linda Carlson of David City, Nicholas & Debbie Carlson of Placerville, CA, Craig & Vicki Carlson of Belton, TX; 11 grandchildren, Brad and wife, Megan Carlson, Daniel and wife, Jenna Carlson, Laura and husband, Ethan Larsen, Taylor Carlson, Noel and husband, Dixon Kinney, Alia and husband, Matt Pomey, Cole Carlson, Lauren Carlson, Lyndsi and husband, Karl Chapin, Faith Carlson and Grace Carlson and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne (Wilson) Carlson; daughter, Melanie; daughter in law, LaNelle; 2 sisters, Arlene Chaplin and Lois Lefler.
