Vera Sophie (Ihde) Westerberg was born February 12, 1918 near Garland, Nebraska to Andrew and Mary (Piening) Ihde and passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 3 months, 27 days. Vera was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Garland. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School in Garland and graduated from Leahey Public School. Vera was united in marriage to Arthur Westerberg on April 4, 1937 and their marriage was blessed with three children, Douglas, Roger and Mary Ellen. The family moved from Lincoln to Seward in 1957 where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business, City Cleaners, for many years. Vera was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, LWML, and Thursday morning Bible study. She also assisted with the social activities in the local nursing home. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mary Ihde, her husband, Arthur Westerberg, sisters, Elsa Vidlock and Helen Hass and brother, Leonard Ihde. Vera is survived by her three children and their spouses, Douglas and Beverly Westerberg, Lincoln, Roger and Dale Westerberg, Charleston, SC and Mary Ellen and Bernard Lutz, Lexington, KY; six grandchildren and their spouses, Leslie and Mark Brown, Tim Westerberg, Andy and Tasha Westerberg, Stephanie and Stephen Harrelson, Ashli Golden, Whitni Crosby; five great-grandchildren, Duncan Brown, Alexandria Brown, Sophie Harrelson, Stephen Harrelson, Jr., Kailyn Westerberg; brother-in-law, Oris Hass, Malcolm and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Vera. |
