IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Verla
Jungemann
March 4, 1930 – April 2, 2023
Verla Jeanne (Manfull) Jungemann was born March 4, 1930, in Gettysburg, South Dakota to Harry A. and Hazel B. (Stockstad) Manfull, and died on April 2, 2023, at her home in The Greene Place, Seward, Nebraska at the age of 93 years.
Verla was baptized March 30, 1930, and confirmed June 30, 1946, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, SD. She graduated from Gettysburg High School on May 29, 1947, and completed the Graduate Nursing Program at Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing, Sioux Falls, SD on September 18, 1950. While serving as the Campus Nurse, Verla completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science at South Dakota State College, Brookings, SD in 1953 and become an instructor in that program.
On August 30, 1953, Verla was united in marriage to Herbert F. Jungemann at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, SD. God blessed this union with three children. The couple moved often, living in Brookings, SD; Casper, WY; Billings, MT; Scottsdale, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Denver, CO; and Seward, NE. Active in the Lutheran churches and schools her children attended, she was often able to use her nursing license, skills, and education when schools did not have a nurse on staff. She was active in numerous church and community organizations, including St. John Seward Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Red Hat Chit Chats, church choirs, community symphony auxiliaries, and nursing associations. Herb and Verla led Sunday services in nursing facilities, with Verla playing piano and the family singing in harmony.
In 1983, Verla completed a newly recognized Nurse Practitioner program at Colorado University while working as a Public Health Nurse at Jefferson County Health Department. Her certifications included Obstetrics/ Gynecology and Family Health. Verla had a passion for this type of nursing and found many friends and supporters among her coworkers and patients. In 1990, Verla accepted the position of Director of the Health Center at Concordia University and served as staff nurse with Women's Health Lincoln until her retirement.
Verla possessed the gift of hospitality, and everyone was welcome in her home. She loved to travel, camp in remote locations, and, most of all, throw a good party and play board games, hosting family and friends often. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother, and grandmother who shared her faith and love at every opportunity.
Family cherishing her memory include daughters and sons-in-law Gale Jungemann-Schulz and Robin Schulz, Seward, NE and Loa and Scott Jansen, Naples, FL; sister, Lila Houck, Ft. Pierre, SD; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Joyce Jungemann, Tuscan, AZ; Quin and Joyce Jungemann, Lynn Haven, FL; Jerald Zupfer, Westwood, NJ; 5 grandchildren – Dana Ternus, Jacquelyn Hein, Rachael Albrecht, Laura Schulz, Brian Jansen; 16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as special Christian friend, Linda Gierhan.
