Verna Amanda Theresa (Duer) Mosley, age 84, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 in Joplin, Missouri. Verna was born September 25, 1923 on their homestead in rural Staplehurst, Nebraska to the union of Bernhard "Ben" Julius Duer and Wilhelmine "Minnie" Sophia Louisa (Scheuman) Duer. Verna left school in the 8th grade to help care for her four brothers and four sisters when her mother became ill. She and her siblings often went the five miles to school by horse and buggy. She got her GED later in life. She worked as a maid and factory worker in Seward, Nebraska; as a bank employee in Lincoln, Nebraska; electronic factory worker in New Hampshire, Virginia, and Missouri; and for Servicemaster in Kansas. She married Donald "Don" Ray Mosley on January 17, 1960 in Staplehurst, Nebraska. He survives at the home. Additional survivors include brothers Edwin Duer and wife, Lavonne, Fredrick "Fritz" Duer and wife, Norma; sisters, Dorthy Parks, Evangeline Barth and husband, Harold, Cynthia "Cindy" Ludwig and husband, Jim; brother-in-law, DeVerne Orth; sister-in-law, Norma Duer, all of Nebraska; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by brothers, Henry and Kenneth Duer; sister, Darleen Orth; sister-in-law, Annabelle Duer; brothers-in-law, Delmar Ahrens and Charles Parks; nephew, Clint Duer; and nieces, Dottie and Minnie Ahrens. |
