Obituary

Vernon Fred Lostroh was born on April 30, 1926 to Louis and Sette (Borchers) Lostroh on a farm northwest of Emerald, which is now Pawnee Lake. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, where he was a lifetime member. He attended Lancaster School District 80, and Pleasant Dale High School. At the age of 18, he was inducted into the United States Army during World War II. He served on the island of Okinawa 1945-1946. On May 25, 1949, he was united in marriage to Doris Virginia Oxley at Doris's parent's home northwest of Pleasant Dale. They settled on a farm north of Pleasant Dale, where they lived over 50 years. In 2001, Vernon and Doris moved to The Landing at Williamsburg in Lincoln. Vernon was a member of American Legion since 1946. He was a life member of Post #354 and held the offices of Post Commander and also service officer. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #7. He served as a School District #64 board member for 15 years, served on the board of the Emerald Co-op Elevator for eight years, and served on the Seward County Veterans Committee for 36 years. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Doris, Lincoln; his daughters and spouses, Sheralyn Cox and Bill Bonacker, Kimberly and Shannon Mills, all of Lincoln; his brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Kathleen Lostroh of Pleasant Dale; three nieces; grand nieces and nephews; several cousins; and a host of friends.
