Victor John McGarvey was born on August 11, 1946 in Lancaster, PA; to William Grant and Georgina Laura (Dumoulin) McGarvey. Victor spent his early years in Lancaster before the family moved to Florida and New Jersey, but the family returned to Lancaster and that is where he graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School in 1965.
On July 28, 1966, Victor enlisted into the United States Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA; but served on aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean Sea during the Vietnam War. On July 28, 1968, Victor was honorably discharged. He returned to Lancaster where he began working as a technician and plant manager for Sperry Univac, Champion Blower and Forge companies in Lancaster. He was later Vice President of manufacturing at Newcourt Inc. in Lancaster county. On September 18, 1967, he married Laurie Jackson and to this union two sons were born. They later divorced in 1987. Victor worked as a Production Engineer Manager at Laminators Corp. in Lansdale, PA. While living in there he met Patricia Kremer. On August 8, 1992, Victor married Patricia in Reading, PA. While living in Reading, he worked at Hechinger Company as Technical Sales Specialist and Electrical Department Manager. Later he worked for Reese Properties in Oley, PA. In September of 2000, he worked for Target Corp. in Building Services then as a District Facilities Technician until his retirement in October 2012. Victor and Pat moved to Seward in August of 2015.
Victor is survived by his wife Patricia of Seward, two sons, Noel McGarvey and wife Nicole of Denver, CO; and Chris McGarvey and wife Katie and their children Kellen and Karter of Denver, CO; two stepchildren, Nicole Kremer and husband Shaun Collins of Philadelphia, PA; and Sean Kremer and wife Stacy and their children, Cole, Cameryn and Raeleigh of Milford, NE; his brother, Dennis McGarvey and wife Wanda of Lancaster, PA.
Visitation will be on Friday January 15, 2016, at Zabka Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at La Ruche Bed and Breakfast at 1027 N. 2nd St. Seward from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
