Virgil Ernest Lange was born June 7, 1923 on the family farm near Malcolm, Nebraska to Ernest and Bertha (Brandt) Lange and passed away on August 7, 2011 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 2 months. He was baptized at home on June 11, 1923 and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Malcolm on May 16, 1937. Virgil graduated from Malcolm High School in 1941. He was united in marriage to Bernice Schulz on April 4, 1948 in Garland. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Doug and Sharon. Virgil was a farmer and dairyman near Malcolm for many years. He was also employed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the maintenance department, retiring in 1983. Virgil was a Malcolm volunteer fireman and served on the fire board and the election board for many years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Malcolm and served the Lord in many offices. Virgil was married to Bernice for 63 years; he was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Bertha Lange. Survivors include Virgil's wife, Bernice Lange, Malcolm; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Deb Lange, Malcolm; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Roger Schmersal, Garland; four grandchildren, Todd and Katrina Lange, Lincoln, Stacey and Steve Reynolds, Weston, Jamie Schmersal and friend Josh Spencer, Des Moines, IA, Christina Schmersal, Lincoln; four great-grandchildren, Kaycee Lange, Carson Reynolds, Evan Reynolds, Braydon Schmersal; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Olinda Schulz, Seward and Leona and Harvey Beckman, Fort Wayne, IN; other relatives and a host of friends.
