Virginia Clarke Cattle was born on September 21, 1920, in Seward, Nebraska to Dr. H.D. and Gladys (Gold) Clarke and passed away on June 3, 2023, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 102 years, 8 months and 13 days.
Virginia attended and graduated from Seward High School with the Class of 1938. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and took art classes at Concordia College. Virginia was united in marriage to John W. Cattle, Sr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Cattle, Sr., on December 27, 1941, at the Methodist-Episcopal Church in Seward. They were blessed with two children, John W. Cattle, Jr. and Rebecca Vahle. Virginia was known for her quick sense of humor and kindness. She loved to travel and indulge in her favorites which included Hershey's chocolate, dirty chai and kettle corn.
Virginia was a longtime member of the Seward United Methodist Church, Sunday school teacher, Bluebird and Campfire leader, a member of the ISAC (International Society of Antique Scale Collectors), P.E.O. Chapter CC, Memorial Health Care Systems Auxiliary, Moffitt Questers and she delivered Meals on Wheels for three years. She was the chair of the Seward United Methodist Church Bazaar for many years. Virginia was awarded the 2023 Nebraska Friend Award and most recently was chosen to be the 2023 Grand Marshall of the upcoming Grand Parade for the Fourth of July.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parents-in-law; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Roger and Kathryn Clarke; son, John Cattle, Jr.; grandchildren, Dr. Heather Dews and Darwin Cattle.
Survivors cherishing her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Dr. Van Vahle, Seward, daughter-in-law, Cathy Cattle, Seward; grandchildren, Van Vahle, Hong Kong, Nicole (Eric) Schneider, Isanti, Minnesota, Kourtney Vahle (Brooks Ralston), Chicago, Illinois, Whitney Cattle, Savannah, Missouri, Roger (Alyssa) Cattle, Malcolm, JT (Maggie) Cattle, Overland Park, Kansas; grandson-in-law, Randy Dews, Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Connor Dews, Calvin and Elsie Schneider, Clarke and Ellis Ralston, Miles and Micah Cattle; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Virginia.
