Obituary

Vivian J. "Pat" McDonald was born on November 10, 1921, four miles south of Goehner, NE; to William R. and Katherine Louise (Eberspacher) Gassman and passed away on August 25, 2015; at the Wisner Care Center in Wisner, NE; at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 15 days. Pat grew up in the Goehner area where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1939. She met her future husband, Paul "Mac" McDonald, while he was stationed at Ft. Robinson, they were married on October 13, 1942 in Rushville, NE. The couple lived in Chadron and St. Joseph before moving to Goehner in August of 1949. They owned and operated the Goehner Cash Store, later calling it Mac's Cash Store where she was the bookkeeper until they sold it in March of 1986. Pat loved working in her flower garden and to share her flowers with others. She would often supply flowers for the altar at Friedens United Church of Christ where she was a long time member and also for the Goehner Melodrama. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mac McDonald, sister Wilma Tharpe and two brothers, Larry and wife Isabelle Gassman and Allan Gassman. Pat is survived by her sister; Elaine Rosario, brother-in-law; Joseph Rosario, sister-in-law; Adele Gassman of Omaha, and numerous nieces and nephews.
