Vivian Maxine (Vrana) Soucek was born December 28, 1923 in Seward, Nebraska to Anton and Florence (Walker) Vrana and passed away on March 15, 2008 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 2 months, 18 days. Vivian was a graduate of Garland High School. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Concordia University in Seward. On May 10, 1949, Vivian was united in marriage to A. J. Eddy Soucek in David City, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Terry and Sandy. Vivian was a lifelong educator; she taught school for 42 1/2 years, the early years in rural Seward County, Bee, and Garrison. The last 30 years she taught with Seward Public Schools in the Social Studies Department at Seward Junior High School. Vivian was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church and Altar Society in Seward. She served two terms on the Seward City Council, was past president of Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a longtime member of the National Education Association and the Nebraska State Education Association. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Florence Vrana; her husband, A. J. Soucek; and her brother, David Vrana. Vivian is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Deb Soucek of Bee; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Mick Vercellino of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Corey and Amber Soucek, Angie Soucek and Gina Vercellino; six great-grandchildren, Alex Soucek, Caloway Soucek, Keaton Soucek, Mckinely Soucek, Alyssa Osorio, E.J. Soucek ; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Elaine Vrana of Seward, Don and Gladys Vrana of Syracuse and Jerry and Sondra Vrana of Tomah, Wisconsin; her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Larry Sorge of Merced, California and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Vivian. |
