Obituary

Walter Stanley Waas was born January 23, 1919 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Einar and Marvel (Rasch) Waas and passed away on February 10, 2015 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 96 years and 18 days. Wally was a graduate of Humboldt High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a graduate of the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in St. Paul, MN. He was a member of the Minnesota National Guard 206th Infantry Division and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operation where his position was a microbiologist. He also attended Durham University in England. Wally was united in marriage to Corinne Elizabeth Laura"Twink" (Leland) Waas on September 21, 1945 in Madison, Nebraska; their marriage was blessed with one son, Eugene. The family moved to Seward in 1952 and Wally began employment with Seward Memorial Hospital where he served as Administrator, retiring in 1983. He served in the health care profession for a total of 42 years. Wally was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Seward. Other memberships included Oliver Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M., Shrine Greeters, Crippled Children Transport, VFW Post #4755-Seward, past President of Seward Country Club, member of the Seward City Council, Secretary-Treasurer of the Southeast Nebraska Health Planning Council. Preceding Wally in death are his parents; his wife Twink in 2010, sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Adele and Ione and Arthur Rehnberg. Wally is survived by his son, Gene Waas, Urbana, IL; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Wally.
