Wilma Jean Specht was born on September 11, 1923, in Seward to Clifford Thomas and Florence Irene (Reynolds) Stephenson and passed away on April 13, 2016, in Lincoln at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 2 days. Wilma grew up in Seward where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1940. She later attended business school in Lincoln.
After her education, Wilma returned to Seward where she worked at various places. She later met Verne Specht in Seward. After he enlisted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in California, Wilma went out and they were married on July 12, 1942. He was later sent to New Guinea where he served during W.W.II. Wilma returned to her parent's farm near Tamora. After Verne's discharge the couple moved to Lincoln where he attended UNL and Wilma was a homemaker and mother to their son, Monte. The couple lived in numerous places around the country due to Verne's job and all the while Wilma cared for the house and their four children. In their retirement the couple moved back to Lincoln to be close to family and friends. Wilma enjoyed sewing, reading and taking the grandkids on camping trips across the U.S. She loved hosting family gatherings, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Cliff (March 11, 1992) and Florence (July 29, 2001), husband Verne (Feb. 11, 1998), brother Clifford Irving Stephenson (1978), daughter Barbara Specht ( Jan. 20, 2013), son-in-law Richard DeWess (July 30, 2009).
She is survived by two sons, Monte Specht and wife Patricia of Lincoln, Allen Specht and wife Marjorie of Lincoln; daughter Jane DeWess of Lompoc, CA; grandchildren Michele Ackerman and husband Dave, Michael Specht, Robert Specht, Andrew Specht, Evie Roper, Nathan DeWess, Anna Chastain and husband Jeremy, great grandchildren, Sidney Ackerman, Gabriela and Josie Roper, Emma and Madelyn Chastain.
